"Dr Hillstrom's Biostatistics course definitely helped me better understand the fundamentals of statistics as well as how to apply the knowledge via an assignment, where students were asked to analyze real-life biomechanical data. The knowledge allowed me to help a PhD student in my lab to determine which statistical method to use to compare several groups of in vitro data.

The Biomaterials and Biomechanics courses provided me with a good overview about properties of different knee and hip implants and some crucial design requirements to meet patients' needs. I especially enjoyed the finite element modeling part of the coursework, through which I learned how simulations are actually used to observe mechanical functioning of the joints and efficacy of the implants.

Dr Hillstrom always makes sure that her students have firm understanding of the materials covered and is very responsive to students' questions within several hours or even a few minutes. Dr Hillstrom's wealth of knowledge and caring personality are valuable assets for her students."

“Dr Hillstrom taught me French, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and French at high school and made it so easy for me. Dr Hillstrom was very patient and made the topics so much simpler to grasp with the way she broke it down for me. She is one of the very few teachers that I loved learning from. I am very grateful to Dr Hillstrom and I hope that all students get such a good teacher like her. Dr Hillstrom is super nice and I really appreciate teachers like her."

“I was looking for a high school Science tutor for my twins and I am really glad I found Dr Hillstrom. She is a really excellent teacher and very patient. The lessons were really well planned and my children always said they loved the lessons, which was quite rare. After the first few lessons, I requested French lessons as well, because this was Dr Hillstrom's mother tongue. Although Dr Hillstrom focused on Math and Science, she took her time to teach French to my children who were struggling at the time. To my delight, both my children obtained A*. I highly recommend Dr Hillstrom. She genuinely wants the best for her students”

"I had the opportunity of taking Dr. Hillstrom’s course of Materials in Medicine and had a great experience learning about biomedical engineering. She taught me the biological concepts, clarified the mathematics, cultivated a materials science background, and familiarized me with the relevant medical/clinical concerns. She also trained students to use industry specific simulation/modeling software such as FEBio and ABAQUS. Such a chance to apply knowledge is rare and the opportunity given by Dr. Hillstrom was an invaluable experience.

Dr Hillstrom makes use of the resources around her to provide a better learning experience. For example, taking advantage of our location in NYC, Dr. Hillstrom planned a trip to the Hospital for Special Surgery for a guest lecture as well as a lab tour. Although the course encompasses a very broad scope of knowledge, Dr. Hillstrom's course of Materials in Medicine laid a great foundation for understanding the subject.

In fact, I went on to complete my graduate capstone project under Dr. Hillstrom's mentorship on knee contact biomechanics. With her guidance, the endeavor went beyond a grad school project to become a polished submission to international conferences such as the Orthopaedic Research Society (ORS) and the International Society of Biomechanics (ISB). I co-presented the work at the 2021 ORS Conference. Dr. Hillstrom’s knowledge and experience was very indispensable in this achievement.

Generally speaking, Dr. Hillstrom is also very open to questions, and encourages both discussions and critical thinking. Outside of the classroom, she is quick to answer emails and eager to meet with struggling students for review. It is clear that Dr. Hillstrom cares for her students and puts in the time and effort to build an engaging course for their success."
